The Problem

Peak Day Is The Wrong Time To Find Out

Salesforce runs the infrastructure, but your custom code, data and integrations decide how your site performs under pressure. Are you facing any of these?

Custom code you can't trust under load?

SFCC gives full control of cartridges, controllers and hooks, so inefficient code, remote includes and poor caching are common. These issues often only appear under real peak load.

Testing on environments that don't reflect Production?

Staging and Development are not sized like Production, so results there can be misleading. Production-sized loaner realms need planning, budget and Salesforce lead time, so testing is often skipped or left too late.

Integrations, quotas and jobs failing at peak?

Slow OMS, ERP, payment or tax calls, platform quota limits and scheduled jobs running at peak are common hidden causes of errors and outages during major trading events.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC / B2C Commerce) is a Salesforce-hosted SaaS platform. Salesforce owns the infrastructure and capacity, but customers have full control of custom cartridges, storefront code (SFRA or Composable Storefront / PWA Kit), jobs, integrations, data and configuration, and these are the most common causes of slowdowns at peak. TCTG's SFCC Performance Audit tests and profiles these layers end to end, including checkout, on a production-sized loaner realm or pre-live Production, following Salesforce's load-testing guidance. Key Features

What's Included In An SFCC Performance Audit?

End-to-end load testing, code profiling and integration testing on a production-sized environment, aligned to Salesforce guidance.

Peak load testing (end to end)

Load testing of full shopper journeys (home, category, search, product, basket, checkout and order placement) at predicted peak, typically 2x last year's highest event.

‍Production-sized test environment

Testing on a Salesforce loaner realm (live sites) or pre-live Production, as Staging and Development are not production-sized.

‍Spike & soak testing

Spike tests for flash sales and launches (page-cache warm-up, eCDN, basket and checkout under bursts) and multi-hour soak tests for session, job and quota drift.

Custom code profiling

Profiling of cartridges, controllers and hooks with Code Profiler, Pipeline Profiler and Technical Reports to find slow code and remote includes.

Cache & eCDN review

Review of page-cache configuration, cache-hit ratios and eCDN behaviour, with separate cached and uncached test runs.

Quota & limits analysis

Review of API quotas, HTTP call limits, script timeouts and object limits, treating quota warnings as findings.

SCAPI / OCAPI performance testing

API testing for Composable Storefront and headless builds, including SLAS authentication and rate-limit (429) handling.

Integration & job testing

Testing of OMS, ERP, PIM, payment, tax and search integrations (real or virtualised) with scheduled jobs running during tests.

Front-end & Core Web Vitals audit

LCP, INP, CLS and TTFB on key templates, plus image, script and cache-header review.

Vendor coordination

Salesforce Support notification, loaner-realm ordering and eCDN/WAF allow-listing, with agreed Rules of Engagement.

Retest & peak readiness

Retest within the same loaner-realm window and a peak-event runbook for the customer's team.

Our Approach

A clear, structured process from scope to sign-off.

1. Engage & Authorise

Agree scope and targets; notify Salesforce Commerce Support, order a loaner realm (typically chargeable, ~60-day loan) and confirm eCDN/WAF allow-listing.

2. Discover & Baseline

Review Technical Reports, Pipeline Profiler and quota logs from the last peak, plus cartridges, cache settings and data volumes; baseline Core Web Vitals.

3. Model & Plan

Build an arrival-rate model (orders/hour, page views/hour) aligned to Salesforce's approach, including background jobs; set targets at typically 2x previous peak.

4. Build

Create SFRA or SCAPI/PWA Kit scripts, deploy code and data to the loaner realm, disable emails and set up a test payment gateway.

5. Execute

Run baseline, load, spike and soak tests, monitoring Business Manager dashboards, Log Center and quotas with Salesforce Support on standby.

6. Analyse & Report

Identify slow controllers, remote includes, cache misses, quota violations and slow integrations; prioritise fixes.

7. Retest & Sign-off

Retest fixes within the loaner-realm window and hand over the readiness verdict and peak runbook.
Deliverables

What You Get

Every engagement ends with practical, evidence-based outputs your teams can act on straight away.

  • Rules of Engagement & authorisation pack – Scope, test windows, traffic caps and stop criteria, including Salesforce Support notification and loaner-realm request.
  • SFCC performance risk assessment – Risk-rated view of cartridges, integrations, quotas, caching and data volumes.
  • Test strategy & workload model – Full storefront and checkout workload model with journeys, arrival rates and acceptance criteria.
  • Reusable test scripts & data – Version-controlled JMeter / k6 scripts for SFRA or SCAPI / PWA Kit, handed over for future use.
  • Front-end & Core Web Vitals report – Template-level LCP, INP, CLS and TTFB findings with image, script and cache-header fixes.
  • Code & configuration findings register – Code Profiler, quota and cache findings, each logged with evidence, impact, owner and fix.
  • Load test results report – Response-time percentiles, throughput, error rates and quota usage compared with targets.
  • Capacity & readiness assessment with remediation backlog – RAG readiness verdict against target peak on a production-sized realm, plus an effort-vs-impact prioritised backlog.
  • Executive summary, peak runbook & retest evidence – One-page verdict and key risks, a peak-event monitoring runbook, and before/after evidence for fixes.

Ideal For

Retailers and brands on SFCC preparing for Black Friday, seasonal peaks or major launches; sites going live, replatforming or moving to Composable Storefront / PWA Kit; teams with heavy custom cartridges or complex OMS, ERP and payment integrations; and organisations that have had slowdowns, quota issues or outages at peak.
Customer Benefits

What Are The Benefits Of An SFCC Performance Audit?

Evidence-based peak readiness, code-level root causes and fixes prioritised by business impact.

Proven peak capacity

Evidence that the full shopper journey, including checkout, will handle predicted peak traffic.

Code-level root causes

Server-side profiling pinpoints the exact cartridges, controllers and integrations slowing the site

Protect revenue and conversion

Fix slow pages and checkout bottlenecks before customers experience them at peak.

Avoid quota and integration failures

Find quota violations, timeouts and slow third-party calls before they cause errors in live trading.

Safe, Salesforce-aligned testing

Testing follows Salesforce guidance and avoids GMV charges, email floods and blocked traffic.

Clear, prioritised fixes

Evidence-backed findings ranked by impact help development teams and SIs fix the highest-value issues first.

Reusable testing assets

Scripts, data and workload models can be reused for future releases and peak events.

Frequently asked questions

Salesforce hosts SFCC – why do we need to test it?
Salesforce owns the infrastructure, but your custom code, configuration, data and integrations run on it. Salesforce's own guidance is for customers to load-test to predicted peak before go-live and major events.
Can we test on our Staging instance?
Not for capacity. Staging and Development are not production-sized, so results are indicative only. Valid peak results need a Salesforce loaner realm or Production before go-live.
What is a loaner realm and is there a cost?
A production-sized environment rented from Salesforce via your Account Team, typically for 30 or 60 days and usually chargeable. We help you order it and deploy your code, catalogue and configuration to mirror Production.
Can you test checkout and order placement?
Yes. SFCC checkout can be load-tested end to end using a test or stubbed payment gateway, with emails disabled and test orders cleaned up afterwards. Using a loaner realm avoids GMV charges on live Production.
How far ahead of peak should we start?
Ideally 2–3 months before the event. A full Peak Readiness Audit takes 6–10 weeks including vendor lead time, and allows time to fix and retest. A Rapid Health Check with no load testing can be done in 1–2 weeks.
